I met Evelyn nearly a year ago. It was a troubling day in our family’s chronicles. It was Tuesday, May 22, 2018. Our dear mother, Lucille Harris, went into care at Winbourne Park in Ajax on that date. My sister, my niece and I clucked around Mommy, trying to console her, convince her that Winbourne Park was the best option after a most unfortunate and life threatening fall at home that past January. It was on this day that Evelyn began to watch over our mother, making sure that she was not given any food items that did not agree with her, that she was given her tea, was told what was on the menu for each meal. Feisty when she needed to be, she was also motherly, protective, warm, funny and loving. She was our mother’s room mate at Winbourne Park . When we came to visit, sometimes all the way from Bermuda, she welcomed us with open arms and kept our mother’s company,. Evelyn was instrumental in Mommy’s adjustment process at Winbourne Park. Our mother misses her greatly and we are greatful for the short time that Evelyn was woven into the fabric of our family. Another flower that has furled her petals in exchange for a greater place in the Father’s Kingdom. May she rest in the arms of the Father. Andrea Brown new Harris
